A new policy was introduced May 16, regarding common access cards that were terminated due to being lost, stolen, destroyed or confiscated.

Personnel who have lost their common access cards must present documentation proving the incident was reported to either security forces or a CAC-sponsoring agency, the supported unit, to card issuing officials.

"Acceptable documentation includes a police report, a statement or document provided by the CAC-sponsoring agency, a letter or memorandum from the activity's security manager, supervisor or tactical automated security system trusted agent," said Nate Waters, Military Personnel Section customer service section.

Accountability and security were taken into consideration when establishing this new policy.

"We need to account for every card we issue out and receive. If we do not receive a card back, a document explaining why it was not returned is required," Waters said. "This process will also remind personnel on the importance of securing their card."

The new process was introduced for good reasons, said Waters.

"Your common access card contains your identity," he said. "In the long run, this was established to help protect the identities of base personnel."
