The Barksdale Fitness Center continues to implement new programs to stay current with the latest workouts.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, the top 5 fitness workouts are body weight training, high-intensity interval training, educated and experienced fitness professionals, strength training and personal training.

"Consistently updating exercise routines and workouts prevents the individual from getting bored," said 1st Lt. Robert Lavarnway, 2nd Force Support Squadron fitness and sports chief. "It forces the body to adapt to new workouts as well as use some untrained muscle fibers, thus inflicting change on the human body physique."

This year alone, the fitness center has added 18 group aerobic exercise classes and a new resistant training program.

"We currently have 12 certified staff members and there are physical training leaders around base who are certified in the program," said Tech. Sgt. Johnny Powell, 2nd Force Support Squadron fitness director.

Additionally, physical and virtual personal trainers are available to customers. The Fitness on Request kiosk offers over 100 virtual aerobic classes including cable boxing, stomp and circuit training.

It's important to stay current on new workouts because they are typically designed to be safer and give you better results," said Powell.

"We don't promote for someone to temporarily come in a month before their fitness assessment in hopes to past it," he continued. "We want programs you can continue to utilize and build a lifestyle."

As the fitness center implements changes, there are future changes for customers to look forward to. This includes 24/7 access to the fitness center through CAC entry point and an increase in incentive programs.
