Team Barksdale hosted the Save-A-Life Tour at Hoban Hall Dec. 18, to remind Airmen about the dangers of distracted or drunken driving.

The tour's objective is to use every method at our disposal to bring home the reality of the dangerous practice of distracted driving because it has eclipsed drunk driving as the number one safety concern of the driving public.

Safety events, such as the Save A Life Tour, and others are held annually before long weekends or major holidays and consist of a large group session, often held in Hoban Hall, followed by small group sessions hosted by individual units or squadrons.

"The goal of this is for everybody to get the right message," said Richard Knowles, 2nd Bomb Wing safety office. "No texting and driving, no drinking and driving, and if you're going to drink, make sure you have a plan. Our goal is for everyone to come back safely after the holidays."

During a group session, Anthony Lawrence, Save A Life Tour speaker, shared the dangers of texting while behind the wheel using realistic multimedia, including driving simulators.

"We want military personnel to know when they go out to have a good time, it's worth more to get home and where you're going safely than anything else," said Lawrence. "Always be aware of what's going on. Don't fall into the temptation of [distracted driving]. Being at a young age, you're more susceptible to peer influence, especially coming from someone older."

Lawrence often reminded the Airmen that a text message is nothing to lose your life over.

This year marks the Save A Life Tour's first return to Barksdale since 2009.
