Renovation coming to Dental Clinic Published Jan. 15, 2015 By Master Sgt. Christopher Hernandez 2nd Dental Squadron BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE La. - -- The Maj. Gen. George Kennebeck Dental Clinic will undergo a four-phase facelift beginning the last week of January. The renovation will bring increased operational space, from 37 to 40 dental treatment rooms, a streamlined layout for patient treatment, and an increase of 1,800 square feet of space for customers. The clinic was built in 1974, and named in honor of the first Assistant Surgeon General for Dental Services. The general footprint for the building has remained unchanged and reflected a patient flow from the 1970s. Much has changed in 41 years and only minor upgrades have been completed since 1974. During the renovation, there will be four distinct phases. Each phase will last approximately four to six months, with all renovations completed by fall 2016. The first phase will have a minimal impact to patients. Construction will begin on a new addition in the rear of the facility. Parking, however, will be affected for some dormitory residents since the rear parking lot of the dental clinic will no longer be available during and after completion of the renovation project. During the second phase, patients may experience longer wait times for scheduling appointments as many treatment rooms will be under construction. In the third phase, the clinic will regain a majority of treatment rooms for use. Finally, all rooms will be operational by the end of the fourth phase. The dental clinic will remain operational during the entire renovation. It is the clinic's intent to continue to provide patients with the best care possible during the renovation project. The scope of the project may create longer access times, but options will be available to ensure timely care. For questions or concerns, contact Master Sgt. Chris Hernandez at 318-456-6719.
