Barksdale hosted its first Battle of the Booster Clubs Bowling Competition June 4 at Barksdale Lanes.

The Battle of the Booster Clubs is a nine-week long league, designed to give individuals the opportunity to earn money for their respective squadrons.

"I wanted to participate in the Battle of the Booster Club competition for a chance to win some money for our squadron booster club," said Tech Sgt. Anthony Currey, 2d Security Forces Squadron. "This was a great opportunity for some of us to help contribute to our squadron and I think these types of friendly competitions build morale within the unit, along with camaraderie with the other squadrons."

The season started June 4 and is every Thursday night at 6 p.m. Anyone over the age of 16 can participate. There are six squadrons participating in the event, 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron, 2d Munitions Squadron, 2d Force Support Squadron, 2d Logistics Readiness Squadron, 2d Security Forces Squadron and 2d Civil Engineer Squadron.

"I found out about the event when my supervisor sent out an email asking if we were interested in being on the team," said Airman 1st Class Brian Adair, 2d FSS, client sever administrator. "I am participating because I love to bowl and it makes me feel good knowing that I helped someone out by volunteering to be on the team. I would recommend anyone who loves to bowl to participate because it is a fun and you meet new people."

The top team will also win a special prize of $500 which will be awarded to their booster club for them to use as they see fit for upcoming squadron events. The team that has the most wins will be declared the winner.

"It gives a chance for individuals to participate, have fun, and have a chance to do something for their squadron members," said Tech Sgt. Raymond Faircloth, 2d LRS. "Unlike softball and basketball, bowling is a sport that requires individuals to spend money out of their pockets every week to participate. These individuals are taking their time and money to do more than have fun, they are doing this in hopes of being able to provide money to their booster clubs, which provides for the entire squadron."
