Airman’s Attic reopens to Barksdale Airmen

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  The grand opening for the new location of the Airman's Attic took place March 17 after months of preparation and renovation.

Prior to the move, the Airman's Attic was small and had trouble accommodating the merchandise as well as customers.

"The biggest benefit of the new location is how much more space we have," said Stefanie Markin, Airman's Attic manager. "Airmen and their families can be much more comfortable while shopping now."

The Airman's Attic provides an invaluable service to Airmen and their families stationed at Barksdale, home of Air Force Global Strike Command, by providing secondhand merchandise ranging from uniforms to children's toys free-of-charge. This resource is made possible by the generous peer-to-peer donations received from members of team Barksdale.

Due to their constant and continuing support of the Airman's Attic program, Airman 1st Class John Meyer and his wife, Amanda, were asked to join Col. Timothy Fay, 2nd Bomb Wing commander, to cut the ribbon during the grand opening ceremony.

"The Airman's Attic provided so much to our family when we first got here, from baby clothes to furniture for our new place, so we try to give back every chance we get," said Mrs. Meyer. "This new location will give [the Airman's Attic] much more space to be more organized and display more merchandise."

In addition to providing more space, the new location is closer to the dorms, providing easier access to the people who will benefit from it the most.

The Airman's Attic is now located in the old clothing sales building located on the corner of Wilbur Wright Road and Kenney Avenue, and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11a.m. to 3 p.m.
