The Red River Dining Facility here began renovations Aug. 30 and will be closed for several months beginning Nov. 1 as the facility receives several upgrades.

"One of the anticipated concerns of the dining facility closure is the care of our Airmen," said 1st Lt. Julianne Schuette, 2nd Force Support Squadron chief of food operations. "The Top Three, First Sergeant's Council and the Chief's Group were all briefed to ensure that their Airmen were reminded of proper financial responsibility, wingmanship to ensure those without personal vehicles have transportation options available and making healthy meal decisions to ensure they're always fit-to-fight."

During DFAC closure, all meal card holders will be placed on Basic Allowance for Subsistence, giving them a daily allowance of $10.80 to use for dining at other facilities both on and off base.

"Meal card holders will notice a monthly increase of approximately $324 on their leave and earnings statement accessible via MyPay," said Senior Master Sgt. Brian Huff, 2nd Comptroller Squadron superintendent. "Since the DFAC will not be open to provide meals during construction, BAS is used to offset the cost of Airmen paying for meals until the upgrades are complete."

Airmen will still have numerous dining options available on-base and in the local community.

The Barksdale Club, Fox Run Snack Bar at the Golf Course, Bowling Center Snack Bar and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service's Food Court and Burger King provide meal options along with numerous local off-base restaurants, said Schuette. Also, the Touch-N-Go flight kitchen will remain open for Airmen, with no interruption of service for flight line or alert personnel.

"We look forward to unveiling a newly upgraded Red River Dining Facility next year," said Schuette.
