2 MXG recognizes top Airmen

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  Roll calls, chants and horns could be heard echoing throughout the hanger. "Is Aircraft Maintenance in the house?" Pull chocks! Maintainers rock! "What about mighty maintenance?" Knuckle! Busters! "Where's Maintenance Ops?" MOS! The Fight Starts Here! "Last, but not least; where's Munitions?" Ammo! Hoo-ah!

More than 850 Team Barksdale members, friends and family attended the 2011 Maintenance Professional of the Year banquet Feb. 3.

"What an awesome event," said Col. Tim Fay, 2nd Bomb Wing commander. "You are without a doubt the greatest maintainers in the United States Air Force. You take a 52-year old airplane and make it look easy."

Members of the 2nd Maintenance Group recognized and congratulated Airmen within 46 different categories from the previous year on a job well done.

"Each category included several Airmen nominated based on superior performance in their job by their supervisor," said Senior Master Sgt. John Melito, 2nd Maintenance Group MPOY Committee chairman. "To become the winner, they compete at the squadron level by submission of an award nomination package, and the winner from each squadron then competes at the group level."

Melito was one of 44 others nominated and victorious in their categories. All award winners will compete against other winners from Air Force Global Strike Command and if they win, they will compete at the Air Force level.

"My advice for anyone who would like to compete next year would be to become the expert in all areas of their daily duties, maintain a positive attitude and definitely be a team player," Melito said.
