Need motivation, excitement or change? The Barksdale Fitness Center may be the answer.

Soon Team Barksdale will be able to step into the aerobics room to find a new hi-tech state-of-the-art Fitness On Request kiosk.

"The kiosk will be a high-quality fitness projection system," said Col. Scott Hoover, 2nd Mission Support Group commander. "Patrons will be able to walk up to the kiosk, use the touch screen to select from four to six different aerobic activities and multiple levels and the system will automatically start."

The interactive system will deliver quality group exercise classes and be available during fitness center hours, giving Team Barksdale an opportunity to make up any classes they may have missed.

"Classes will be updated monthly, so as to provide some variety," said Michael Kaplan, Barksdale Fitness Center fitness and sports chief.

The addition of the kiosk will help save the Air Force money and will provide more flexibility for customer needs.

"We've had to look for innovative ways to deliver excellent programs while keeping costs low," said Kaplan. "The kiosk will allow Barksdale to save nearly $100,000 over the next five years."

The Fitness Center will save money by not having to pay the former contractors who led the classes, which are five times more expensive and provide fewer classes, levels and offerings, said Hoover.

Not only is the kiosk cheaper, it's also mobile. It can be moved wherever it's most effective for gym users.

"The kiosk will be relocated to the new fitness center addition, when we win the Commander-In-Chief's Installation Excellence Award $1 million, should the base choose that option for spending," said Hoover. "This addition is an incredibly smart way of expanding a facility that is 40 percent undersized and getting twice the utilization for which it was designed."

Team Barksdale can expect to see the kiosk inside the aerobics room around summer time, Hoover added.
