Members from the Barksdale Air Force Base Chief's Group teamed up with the housing office during a holiday lights contest here, Dec. 19.

Judges chose four of the best decorated houses on base and presented winners with a prize.

"The holiday lighting and decorations contest was open to all residents in family housing," said Melinda Byrd, Barksdale Air Force Base Family Housing community director. "Houses were judged on who had the best display of exterior holiday décor."

Prizes were awarded to the best four houses, one from each housing area.

"The project owner of family housing supplied four $100 gift cards that were given out to the winning families," said Byrd.

The family housing office holds various contests and events throughout the year for residents.

"We hold a Yard of the Month contest and award winners with a 50 dollar Home Depot gift card," said Byrd. "We hold family bowling nights, pool parties and back to school parties. Each event is listed in our Family Housing newsletter."

The contest is a way for base members to show their holiday spirit, and be rewarded for their hard work.

"It is good to see the community coming together and getting in the holiday spirit," said Chief Master Sgt. Beau Markin, 2nd Maintenance Operations Squadron chief enlisted manager.

Each contest and event is held as a way to show gratitude to service members.

"Our military service members and their families sacrifice so much for the things that many of us take for granted," said Byrd. "For me, it is a blessing to be able to share in any event that may bring cheer to their lives."
