Commissary, Exchange holds family fun, fitness festival Published May 16, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Katherine Holt 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The Barksdale Commissary, in conjunction with the The Exchange is scheduled to hold a Family Fun and Fitness Festival May 18 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. between the BX and Commissary parking lot here. "This festival started last year to accompany our case lot sale," said Pat Wilde, Barksdale Commissary manager. "Unfortunately, due to budget cuts we will not have the usual case lot sale, but a Commissary sidewalk sale will be held May 17-19 and the festival will be on the 18th." The Commissary is set to have a bouncy castle for the children, as well as face painting and games. Appearances by McGruff the crime dog, Sparky the fire dog, Dora the Explorer, Sponge Bob and Elmo characters will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. "It's just something fun for families," said Wilde. "We will also hold drawings for prizes." In partnership with the Commissary, the BX will also have a jump rope contest at 11 a.m., Zumba instructional at noon, a hula hoop contest at 1 p.m. and musical chairs in the food court at 1:30 p.m. A video game fitness tournament will be held at the Game Stop at 2 p.m. "This year's events, with the exception of the musical chairs and video fitness tournament, will be centralized on the road between the Commissary and The Exchange," said Wilde. "Plan now to be a part of the fun."
