Government civilian furloughs required by sequestration will result in the Barksdale Commissary closing an additional day each week.

Scheduled to begin July 8 and run through September 30, the commissary will be closed Tuesdays in addition to Mondays.

The Barksdale commissary is not alone in closing down an extra day during the week. The decision to close affects almost all commissaries with a few overseas exceptions.

According to a statement to installation commanders from the Defense Commissary Agency Director Joseph Jeu, the days chosen to close are DeCA's slow sales days and closing these days helps to minimize the impact on customers.

Although the furlough will be cause commissaries worldwide to close down one or more days, DeCA customers will not lose any of the and services the commissaries offer.

"All of our customers will still be able to come in and find the savings, fresh produce and meats that they are used to," said Ralph Buras, Barksdale Commissary director. "The store hours won't change at all, other than beginning July 8 we be closed on Tuesdays in addition to Mondays."
