Colonel Janet L. Blanchard

Colonel Janet L. Blanchard is the Commander of the 2d Medical Group, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.
She leads a staff of 400 personnel providing multi- specialty outpatient clinical services and emergency medical services supporting 31,000 beneficiaries. As Chief Executive Officer for the medical group, she executes a 21 million dollar enterprise supporting the medical and dental readiness of the 2nd Bomb Wing, Headquarters Eighth Air Force, Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command and 32 associated units. She trains and equips 2nd Medical Group medics to respond to conventional and nuclear contingencies and peacetime operations in support of US interests worldwide. Col Blanchard oversees Air Force Global Strike Command’s largest accredited ambulatory clinic with 79,000 patient encounters and 246,000 prescriptions annually, as well as one of the Air Force’s ten dental residency programs.

Previously, she served as the Commander, 559th Medical Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, the Chief Nurse Executive, 86th Medical Group, 86th Airlift Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany and as the Commander, 97th Medical Operations Squadron, 97th Medical Group, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force
Base, Oklahoma. During her career, she has served in a variety of clinical and executive nursing positions. She has practiced nursing in the ambulatory outpatient setting and in the emergency department, achieving national certifications in both arenas. She has a unique blend of clinical and business acumen with a passion for organizational improvement. Her expertise was recognized when she was awarded the 2015 USAF Alison Award for Character and Innovation, 2015 MHS Nursing Leadership Excellence Award and the 2018 AMSUS Rising Star Award.
