Theater group shares prevention, response message across Air Force

The only sound that can be heard are the cries of a woman as she lies on the floor in pain after an attack by her husband. She feels the arms of a friend wrap around her as she hears them whisper, “I’m getting you out of here.” This is a scene from Barksdale’s Sexual Assault Theater Group. They have cultivated a way to take awareness training from power point presentations to interactive theater.

Fighting the war on MISIS right meow

Captain the Cat is a feline friend and the first mascot for Barksdale’s Honor Guard. “Captain has two purposes, she is a morale booster and she fights what we call the War on MISIS,” said Tech. Sgt. Brandon Henry, Barksdale Honor Guards NCO-in-charge. “It’s a play on words for the war on ISIS and her efforts in mice deterrence. MISIS actually stands for Mouse Independent Society of Interior Structures.”

Hearing the Airmen’s voice

The 2nd Maintenance Squadron aircrew ground equipment flight found an innovative way for their Airmen to have more responsibility and voice their concerns by implementing an Airmen’s council. The creation of the council was brought up by 2nd Lt. Terry Lee, 2nd MXS/AGE flight commander and Master Sgt. Saju Jose, 2nd MXS/AGE flight chief.

Barksdale’s New Special Victims Counsel

In June 2017, Team Barksdale launched the Special Victims’ Counsel program. As a result, victims of sexual assault will now have an attorney on base to represent them through the court-martial process. “When victims make an unrestricted report, they usually have to go through the rigors of the military justice system,” said Captain Deepa Patel, the new Special Victims’ Counsel at Barksdale. “That can involve talking to OSI and testifying at a court martial. My job is to assist and support victims at every step of this process.”

Barksdale Provides Shelter for Evacuated Airmen, Aircraft

The hurricane season is in full swing yet again. For the third consecutive year, Team Barksdale provided refuge to Airmen and aircraft seeking shelter from Hurricane Irma. More than 100 personnel accompanied over 70 aircraft, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., the C-17 Globemaster III from Joint-Base Charleston, S.C., and the T-1 Jayhawk from Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., arrived here between Sept. 8-10, 2017 during a hurricane evacuation.

Barksdale set to celebrate 70th Air Force Birthday

The United States Air Force will commemorate more than seven decades of air power when it turns 70 years old Sept. 18. Team Barksdale will celebrate this milestone with an Air Force Birthday Ball, scheduled to take place Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center.
