  • Renewal of Declaration of Public Health Emergency – COVID-19

    On 17 March 2020, in response to the rapid spread of COVID-19 and based on a preliminary investigation and the recommendations from our Public Health Emergency Officer (PHEO), my predecessor declared a public health emergency (PHE) in accordance with reference (a). That declaration has continuously been reviewed and renewed, and it is set to expire on 5 April 2021. Further investigation and recommendations from my PHEO indicate the need to renew the Declaration of a PHE for an additional 90 days. As such, I am renewing the Declaration of PHE until 5 July 2021, at which time it will automatically terminate unless it is renewed and re-reported, or terminated sooner by myself or a senior commander in the chain of command.

  • Miss America visits Barksdale

    Camille Schrier, Miss America 2020, visited Barksdale and the local area to raise awareness for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs as Schrier herself graduated with honors from Virginia Tech with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Systems Biology.
  • AF surgeon general visits Striker Nation

    Lt. Gen. Dorothy Hogg, U.S. Air Force surgeon general, and Chief Master Sgt. Dawn Kolczynski, Office of the Surgeon General medical enlisted force and enlisted corps chief, visited Barksdale, March 10, 2021.
  • PT test pushed to July, more updates forthcoming

    When assessments resume, the three-component fitness test (1.5-mile run, 1 minute of push-ups and sit-ups) will be reset with scores calculated on a new three-component scoring table. In addition, work is underway to separate scoring into five-year age groups as opposed to the previous 10 – for example, age groups will start at <25, 25-29 years old, 30-34, years old, etc.
  • Air Force to allow longer braids, ponytails, bangs for women

    As an outcome of the 101st Air Force uniform board, Air Force women will be able to wear their hair in up to two braids or a single ponytail with bulk not exceeding the width of the head and length not extending below a horizontal line running between the top of each sleeve inseam at the underarm through the shoulder blades. In addition, women’s bangs may now touch their eyebrows, but not cover their eyes.

    Santas in Blue (SIB) will return to Barksdale Dec. 19, 2020, at the Bossier Civic Center, Bossier City, La., with a COVID-19-safe twist.
