Hunt Housing Improves Quality of Life with Renovations

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  Barksdale AFB Family Housing began a $2.2 million dollar project to renovate the homes and neighborhood amenities for base residents earlier this year to improve the services provided, as well as the quality of life for the base community.

The project began with the houses along Barksdale Boulevard, repainting the exterior and restoring the asphalt roofs.

“I was here a year before the painting started,” said Adrianne Rainey, Barksdale Family Housing community director. “Being able to drive down Barksdale Boulevard then, and driving down Barksdale Boulevard now makes me happy and proud of the community, to see the upgrades that we’re doing. It was long overdue, and we’re happy to do it.”

Houses along Selfridge Avenue and Luke Avenue will be the next focus for these renovations. The goal is to paint 32 homes by the end of the year, with more to follow in 2018. There is more in the works for Barksdale residents aside from the home renovations. The housing office is also working on mechanical room door replacements, upgrades to the base pool, garage structure repairs, storm drain installation and curb and sidewalk improvements.

“I’ve noticed improvements in maintenance since we’ve moved on base,” said Lyndsey Cox, a Barksdale resident. “Our maintenance requests are now answered faster than they were when we first moved in. It is a relief to know maintenance is on call 24/7, and having requests answered so efficiently improves the quality of life in base housing.”

The changes made so far have brought around a seven point increase in the annual CEL satisfaction survey. There has also been an 11.5 percent increase in annual site visit scores.

“We’re happy to be able to improve the quality of life for our Airmen,” Rainey said. “We’re happy to be able to make these improvements, and we hope to continue on.”

Hunt Housing dedicates two fully functioning offices on both main base and east reservation, continuing to improve the quality of life on Barksdale Air Force Base.
