The Civil Air Patrol 2008 Southwest Region Cadet Competition was held at Barksdale's Warrior Center from March 27 through 29.

The annual competition pits CAP detachments against each other in challenges such as drill and ceremony as well as written exams.

More than 140 cadets participated in this year's event under the mentorship and observation of 20 senior members of the Air Force and Air Force Reserves. The Southwest region consists of Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Barksdale's honor guard was on-hand to judge the color guard competition.

The color guard team representing the Arkansas Wing and the drill team representing the Arizona Wing won and will advance to the National Cadet Competition held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in June of this year.

The CAP, whose national headquarters is at Maxwell Air Force Base, consists of mainly 12 to 21 year-olds with a national roster of more than 22,000 cadets.
