The Barksdale Veterinary Clinic provides vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, routine dentals and surgeries, feline leukemia testing, parasite control products, microchipping and health certificates for travel. Sick calls are accepted on a limited basis, based on facility capabilities and time. Prescription medications, including heartworm and parasite prevention products, are only available once a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) has been established and proof of vaccinations have been received if not a current patient.
The Barksdale Vet Clinic does not have the capabilities to offer hospitalization, intensive care, illnesses or care requiring extended and/or prolonged treatment or emergency services. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you locate and establish a VCPR with an off post veterinary clinic. The office staff can provide you with a list of local civilian veterinarians. The clinic also does not offer grooming or boarding. A clinic provides a list of local facilities that offer these services and can be picked up during business hours. |

Due to the prevalence of rabies disease in Louisiana, patients of the clinic will receive an annual rabies vaccination. New patients who have received a three year vaccination from another Veterinarian will be recognized until it expires. Wellness packages are provided for patients of all ages and are different for dogs or cats. |

Base residents are required by base and housing regulations to register their animal(s) with Veterinary Services within 10 working days of arrival and are limited to 2 animals per household. As of 2007, base housing does not allow certain breeds to live on base, check with The Landings for specific breeds. Remember to bring your records with you when registering. You may also want to print and fill out our Client Info Forms and Policy Letter available in our Eligibility section. The Vet Clinic will maintain all your animal's records. Animals that are used or planned to be used for commercial breeding purposes are not allowed services at the Vet Clinic. Use of the Barksdale Veterinary Services Clinic is a privilege, not a right and is mandated by AR 40-905 and 2 BW IDP 31-10 Vol 2 Appendix 35. Anyone who owns a pet on base or uses the Vet Clinic will be expected to know and comply with these regulations. |

While the Veterinary Clinic is dedicated to the care of all personal pets, it is not the only service of the clinic. The primary mission of the Vet Clinic is to provide complete medical care for our four legged soldiers, the Military Working Dogs. Because our mission is to provide the best care for the Military Working Dogs, the normal operating hours of the Vet Clinic may change without notice.
Pets are seen on an appointment-available basis only. The Vet Clinic only has limited days and times for appointments. If you cannot keep a scheduled appointment, please provide a 24 hour notice so that appointment may be offered to someone else. Failure to do so will result in documenting a "no show." When two "no shows" occur, the client will lose veterinary privileges for six months and the chain of command may be notified. A third "no show" will result in permanent loss of veterinary privileges and notification of chain of command.
There may be occasions when you are unable to get an appointment with the Vet Clinic. It is ultimately your responsibility to keep your pet current on all vaccinations, whether it is through the Vet Clinic or an off-base clinic. Failure to do so may result in a loss of pet privileges and/or loss of base housing privileges.

The veterinary treatment facility has policies to ensure the safety of you and your pet when utilizing the facility. Owners are responsible for their pet while at the clinic. This includes maintaining control of and cleaning up after them. All pets must be on a leash or in a crate to be allowed in the facility. If pets are not on a leash or in a crate one must be purchased upon entry into the clinic. Owners must be able to restrain their own animals during appointments. Children under 12 are encouraged not to enter the facility for safety reasons, so please make arrangements for your children before you come to your appointment. The Vet Clinic Staff reserves the right to reschedule an appointment if we believe that the safety of you, your pet or others are in jeopardy. View our full policy letter for more information. |
