BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Air Force Chief of Staff, passes the Air Force Global Strike Command guidon to Lt. Gen. Frank G. Klotz, commander, during the activation ceremony of the major command Aug. 7. The AFGSC organizational construct aligns Intercontinental ballistic missile and nuclear-capable bomber units and other deterrence capabilities under a single command and demonstrate a visible commitment to the strategic deterrence mission while taking full advantage of the existing Air Force field organizational structure.
