While the base may seem like an all work, no play environment, Barksdale personnel should know that one of the nicest playgrounds is in their own backyard.

Airmen need not to leave base for a lively weekend and have more than 30 on-base activities to keep Airmen entertained.

"Outdoor recreation is ridiculously underpriced to attract Airmen and their families to participate in their programs," said Don Ehrman, 2d Force Support Squadron deputy commander.

While most outdoor recreation trips are geared towards Monday through Friday workers, individual trips can be personalized for Airmen with unusual shifts. The cost for a personalized trip is around $20, with no scheduling fee.

"For a family who would like to go camping, outdoor recreation provides sleeping bags, cooking gear, tents, and they can even rent a trailer if they want," said Maj. Anthony Sansano, 2d Force Support Squadron commander. "The family camp also provides recreational lodging facilities equipped with satellite television."

For individual activities, Airman can also use the shooting range as well as the archery range. Other options include hiking trails, biking, hunting and fishing on-base.

The 2d Force Support Squadron is constantly working to improve on-base activities. Long range projects include an updated Stripes Lounge with live performances, a sports bar, a comedy circuit and pay-per-view boxing.

"We are also trying to put set up Halo 3, Rock Band and Guitar Hero tournaments, with the addition of new televisions in the Stripes Lounge," Major Sansano said.
