With more than 900 Barksdale Airmen living in dormitories on base, one office keeps rooms ready.

The dormitory management office, like apartment managers, are responsible for maintaining 10 buildings with 996 living areas in which Airmen reside.

"We have a high-quality standard of living for first-term Airmen," said Tech Sgt. Carrus Brown, 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron Airmen dormitory leader, "We provide fully-furnished rooms for Airmen and we want to take care of any issues they have as they arise."

Not only does dorm management provide furnished facilities, they have measures in place to render assistance to Airmen even after the duty day.

"We have dorm chiefs who live in the dorms who are our eyes and ears after we go home for the day," said Staff Sgt. Michael Reed, 2nd CES ADL. "They do more than help an Airman get back into his room if he locks himself out. They follow through on the standards we set for the Airmen."

Besides a supportive management staff, residents enjoy a wide variety of benefits.

Residents live rent-free in close proximity to the Base Exchange and Commissary, library, fitness center, chapel, post office and more.

Dormitory facilities also have dayrooms that feature reclining chairs, wide-screen televisions, pool tables, laundry rooms and kitchens for Airmen who enjoy cooking their own meals.

In addition to the amenities provided by dorm management, the Airmen dormitory leaders also organize duties to be provided by "bay orderlies," resident Airmen who receive five consecutive duty days away from their jobs to perform dormitory duties such as cleaning dayrooms and general upkeep.

"We're committed to Airmen first," said Reed. "If there is anything that Airmen are in need of, we want to accommodate them. We're giving Airmen returning from long work hours a relaxing environment to stay in with top facilities to relax with amenities they need."

With dorm management providing and maintaining dormitory facilities, Airmen can enjoy a higher quality of life in the military and have a place to recharge every day so they are better able to complete the Barksdale mission.
