COMMENTARY: Thanking each other

Last week we talked about practicing a sense of gratitude and taking account of all the things we have to be thankful for rather than focusing on all the things we don’t have. This week I want to call us to think about particular people in our lives that we need to take special care to thank during this holiday season. There are certain people in our lives to whom we need to consistently vocalize our gratitude. Spouses, parents, siblings, and children go without saying. However there may be other people who have helped you to have a better year, have helped you to grow and thrive, or maybe they just helped you through a hard time this year. It is extremely important that we simply say thank you to those people.

Our assignment this week is to find at least three people that we are thankful for, and tell them “thank you”. When we focus on the things we are thankful for in each other, we have less time and room to complain and hold bitterness and resentment. During this holiday season, let us focus on the things and the people in our lives that matter. Happy Thanksgiving.
