Team Barksdale Deploys to Guam
The Airmen from various base units will spend four months at Andersen supporting the continuous bomber presence in the Pacific.
According to 1st Lt. Warren Anderson, 2d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron troop commander, the primary mission for Barksdale Airmen deployed to Guam will be to generate experience with flying and familiarization with war time strategies.
"We plan to fly and train our pilots to make sure they receive quality weapons training, so they stay proficient on what they do in war time operations," said Lieutenant Anderson. "America's Air Force is demonstrating its capability to project power across the world."
Barksdale supports the four-month deployment rotations along with Minot AFB, N.D., and Whiteman AFB, Mo., to support the continuous bomber presence. Part of the B-52 rotation provided by Barksdale Airmen assists U.S. Pacific Command in maintaining stability and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
That stability is a vital message given recent events in the local area according to Col. Steven Basham, 2d Bomb Wing commander, in a speech to the deploying Airmen.
"Make no mistake, you are a message of this country's commitment to the Asia-Pacific region," said Colonel Basham. "We are that instrument by which this great nation communicates a message to adversarial deviants that we are here, we're embedded, and we plan to stay. Not only on our soil, but we're also committed to our partners in the region."
The bomber presence in support of the expeditionary mission rotates between the B-2 Spirit, B-1 Lancer and B-52H Stratofortress.
The Airmen who recently departed for Guam will be joined by more than seventy-five Barksdale members currently in Alaska taking part in exercise Northern Edge.
