Why volunteer?

Volunteering is the ultimate win/win proposition. It is good for the organization you are helping and good for you as well!

If you are a military spouse, the frequent PCS moves may make it difficult for you to work in your career field. Volunteering may be the only way to maintain your job skills and obtain work experience. You can improve your computer skills, meet new people, or explore something new and different. Volunteering can provide you with experience and contacts that may benefit you in the future.

Where do I start?

First, explore your hobbies, interests and professional skills. How much time do you want to devote to helping others? A few hours a day or a few hours a month? Next consider the type of organization or agency where you would enjoy working . Are you energized by lots of people and a fast paced style or do you prefer a quieter setting with more limited personal contact with others?

Answering these questions will help in choosing a setting you will enjoy. Then stop by the Airman and Family Readiness Center and talk with our staff about the specific areas of interest you have.

Free Childcare!

The Air Force Aid Society Volunteer Child Care Program makes it easy for volunteers with children. Free childcare is available to family volunteers registered in the Volunteer Resources Program. Care must be provided by a licensed Family Day Care provider. Volunteer hours worked must be at on-base agencies. Program does not cover volunteers participating in resale, fundraising, training or social activities. A current listing of FDC childcare providers is maintained at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.
