Colonel Robert Makros is the vice commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. He assists the commander in providing for the health and welfare of more than 9,100 military and civilian personnel, 5,800 family members, and 25,000 retirees. He also shares the responsibility for ensuring the 2nd Bomb Wing maintains a constant state of readiness in order to provide flexible and responsive combat capability in support of United States Strategic Command and theater combatant commanders. Prior to this assignment, Colonel Makros served as a National Defense Fellow at The Henry L. Stimson Center, Washington D.C.

Colonel Makros entered the Air Force in May 1998 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He has served a variety of operational assignments as an F-15E pilot, T-38 instructor and B-2 instructor and evaluator pilot. Prior to his year as a National Defense Fellow, he commanded the 13th Bomb Squadron, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri where he was responsible for the conventional and nuclear combat readiness of the men and women in one of only two operational B-2 stealth bomber squadrons in the Air Force. His staff assignments included positions as Chief, Aircraft Strike and Chief, Global Strike Operations at the Joint Functional Component for Global Strike. Colonel Makros has flown F-15E combat missions in Operation’s Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch and is a Command Pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours in the T-37, T-38, F-15E, B-2 and B-52.
