Colonel Alexis Mezynski is the Vice Commander, 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. He assists the commander in providing health and welfare of approximately 10,500 active duty and civilian personnel, 6,500 family members, and 25,000 retirees. He also shares the responsibility for ensuring the 2nd Bomb Wing maintains a constant state of readiness in order to provide flexible and responsive combat capability in support of United States Strategic Command and theater combatant commanders.
Colonel Mezynski, a Butler, Pa., native, received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy in June 1993. He earned his wings at Columbus AFB, Miss., in September 1995 and has flying experience as a B-1B aircraft commander, T-1 Undergraduate Pilot Training Instructor Pilot, and B-2 Instructor Pilot and Weapons Officer. He has served in numerous squadron leadership positions, including flight commander, assistant director of operations, director of operations, most recently as Commander, 394th Combat Training Squadron, Whiteman AFB, Mo. He has also served on a NATO staff as the Executive Officer in the Operational Preparation Directorate in Oeiras, Portugal.
Colonel Mezynski is a Command Pilot with more than 2,800 hours, and has flown combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
