The mission of the Employment Assistance Program at Barksdale Air Force Base is to support all Department of Defense cardholders in achieving short and long-term employment, by providing resources for education, training and career goals. Located at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, the EAP provides individual services to include dressing for success, mock interviews, negotiating techniques and resume critiques. Other services offered include career assessment, traditional resume, job fair preparation, starting a small business and federal employment workshops.

The 2nd Bomb Wing was awarded the Brig. Gen. Frederick W. Castle Memorial Award March 30, 2018, at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. The Castle Award is an annual trophy created in honor of Castle and the heroic acts he portrayed Dec. 24, 1944. Castle was the air commander and leader for more than 2,000 heavy bombers during a campaign against German airfields.

A B-52 Stratofortress sits at the end of the flight line. The pilot radios to the air traffic control tower, and through the crackling soundwaves they hear, “you’re clear for takeoff.” The aircraft jolts forward, rises to the skies and is off to complete another mission. Communication of this kind is possible due to the work of cable and antenna Airmen. A 23 member Central Antenna Team from the 2nd Communication Squadron cable and antenna shop provided support to these mission essential systems on more than just Barksdale.

What is the fate of a plastic bottle? If thrown in the trash it may find its way to a landfill where it takes over 400 years to decompose. If not properly disposed of, it could find its way into oceans and streams where it can cause harm to animals and their habitats. However, if recycled, plastic and other recyclables can be repurposed as clothing, kitchenware, or a variety of different items. Barksdale’s recycling center is dedicated to making sure the base does its part in reducing waste and promoting the conservation of resources.
