“Wisdom begins in wonder” Socrates

When is the last time you had a sense of wonder? I mean, really a sense of awe that stopped you in your tracks and took your breath away? The first such experience of mine that I can recall is when I first saw the Grand Canyon. I was only eight years old, but I remember it vividly. I was taken aback by how massive and wondrous the site was. It expanded as far as the eye could see and my breath was legitimately taken away (probably because I’m afraid of heights).

Perhaps your experience was seeing something in nature, or maybe even the first time you laid eyes on your beloved. Maybe the first time you saw your child or the first time you were on a plane and looked out into the vastness of the sky. Whatever it is, we must all search out for a sense of wonder in our lives. When we stop experiencing wonder we cease to capture the magical beauty of life. We must constantly search for those moments that take our breath away; those moments that connect us to something larger than ourselves. Searching for moments of wonder can also help us to better live in the moment and to live in gratitude. I think we will find that moments of wonder are all around us every day. See them, experience them and experience greater peace and joy.
