BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. – Two Barksdale Airmen received the Bronze Star Medal during the Maintenance Professional of the Year Awards Ceremony April 7, 2018.
Lt. Col. Steven Shepan, 2nd Maintenance Group vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Quintus E. Woods, 2nd MXG superintendent, were presented the medals from Col. David Carlson, 2nd MXG commander, for their actions during their deployments last year.
Shepan was deployed to Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan last year as the deputy group commander of the airfield. Woods was deployed to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan during the same time and was the maintenance group superintendent. During their deployments, Shepan and Woods led their respective teams to ensure the continuity of air operations advancing mission effectiveness downrange in support of Freedom’s Sentinel.
“This is a team effort and was a direct result from the hard work of the thousands of service members we had in our group at Kandahar,” Shepan said. “It is nothing about individual effort or accomplishment, but how a team comes together when they have a common goal.”
The MPOY wasn’t just to recognize Shepan and Woods on their accomplishments, but to celebrate the 2nd MXG as well.
“It was a relaxed atmosphere which allowed the group to have some fun, but at the same time, we took the time to acknowledge the hard work we’ve done from the last year,” Shepan said.
With the prestigious decoration given out to both Airmen at once, Shepan and Woods were feeling more than just relaxed.
“We were honored and humbled to stand before our group at home,” Shepan said.
