Spouse Orientation

Nov. 4, 2010 PRINT | E-MAIL
Military spouses experience a wide variety of unique challenges and adventures. Whether you are new to the Air Force family or a "veteran", we are pleased to have you join us here at Barksdale. We hope to answer many of your questions and provide you with the resources needed to make your time here filled with new opportunities, good friends and fond memories.

An excellent way to begin your orientation to Barksdale is to join us for Right Start Newcomer's Orientation. This program is offered the first and third Wednesday of each month and is mandatory for all active duty and DOD civilians. The program begins at 0745 and ends at 1130. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend.

Right Start is a great opportunity to learn about programs and services at Barksdale, as well as information about the local community. Topics discussed include: an overview of the base mission by the 2 BW Commander; local area safety issues; base recreational options and services; legal services; and much more. Refreshments, Louisiana trivia and the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends are all part of this fun-filled experience. We look forward to seeing you there!

Another excellent opportunity to learn more about the "how to's" of military life is Heart Link. Learn more about your role as the "Heart of the Team", as well as gaining a solid understanding of available resources and how to access them. During this fun-filled event, you will receive information and have the opportunity to develop new friendships with other spouses. All the positive ingredients to Barksdale your best tour ever. Contact us for information on our next Heart Link.

Remember free child care, through the Air Force Aid "Child Care for PCS" program, is available within the first 60 days of arriving at Barksdale by contacting the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 456-8400 for more information.
